Guitar Model Names
While there are many makes and models for guitars, the most popular is the Dreadnought. These instruments were larger than the typical guitar when they were first manufactured in 1916. Their larger than normal size led them to be named after the British battleship HMS Dreadnought. The HMS Dreadnought was the first of the modern battleships and was the first to be powered by a steam turbine.
Beckwith Strings' dreadnought guitars are named after various classes of WWI and WWII battleships (or dreadnoughts) as a tribute to these by-gone ships and their sailors. The smaller, orchestra models are named after WWII cruisers. Travel and parlor guitars are named after Destroyers - "The Greyhounds of the Navy". The jumbo guitars are named after aircraft carriers – the ships that changed the shape of naval power and mothballed the battleship.
